Newborn Session Tips

Congratulations on your new baby! Thank you so much for considering me for the amazing and rewarding job of photographing your new angel in his/her first few days of life.

All newborn sessions take place in my studio based in Breckenridge, Colorado. My number one priority is the safety of your baby. The studio is set to about 80 degrees which keeps your tiny angel super cozy but will be a bit hot for us adults, so I ask you to dress accordingly.

Before the shoot, please feed baby 2-3 hours prior, and plan on feeding him/her as soon as you get to the studio! Also, please do not let your angel sleep beforehand, instead try giving him/her a bath, let him/her kick with only a diaper, tickle his/her toes, and even let him/her fuss for a little bit (no pacifiers) for the few hours beforehand. This will ensure those squishy, sleepy newborn pictures!

I can’t stress that it’s so important to do your best to keep him awake.

Full Newborn Sessions last about 4 hours and Mini Newborn Sessions last about 2 hours, sometimes longer if baby is a light sleeper, or is hungry! The easiest way to ensure a sleepy baby is the willingness to nurse/bottle feed off and on.

If you can, bring the pacifier the hospital sent you home with. It’s the bendable, green/blue/orangish one, and won’t leave marks. Even if you haven’t used one, just for the 2 hours that I’m posing him/her usually really helps.

Adding on sibling and parent photos is always an option for every newborn session. If you plan to have siblings photographed, I ask that we bring them in for the last part of the session. We want to ensure a calm and peaceful environment for the star of the show! A prep packet will be sent to you after paying your retainer containing all this information and more!
